Troubleshooting BrightHire calls that are blocked or flagged as spam

Written by Jennifer Steinker

If you're using BrightHire Calling and the recipient isn't receiving a call, the call may be getting filtered, blocked, or handled differently by the recipient's phone, carrier, or calling service.

This article walks through the most common settings to check.

If a recipient isn't receiving a BrightHire call:

  1. Confirm the call was initiated successfully in BrightHire.

  2. Check the BrightHire call log to confirm the call attempt.

  3. Identify the recipient's mobile carrier or calling service.

  4. Make sure the Org phone number isn't blocked on yours or the recipient's phone.

  5. Check the carrier spam and call-filtering settings.

  6. If you Google Voice or another calling service, check its call-handling settings as well.

Google Voice

If you're using Google Voice, check both your spam settings and your call-handling settings.

Check spam filtering

If Google Voice identifies the BrightHire call as spam, check your Google Voice spam settings and make sure 1-908-895-6951 isn't being filtered or blocked.

If the call was incorrectly identified as spam, mark it as Not spam when that option is available.

Check call-handling settings

Google Voice includes settings that can affect how incoming calls are handled. If the call appears in your call history but isn't reaching you as expected, review your incoming call and auto-answer settings.

Make sure an auto-answer setting isn't preventing the call from behaving as expected.

Still not receiving the call?

If you've checked the settings above and the recipient still isn't receiving the BrightHire call, contact BrightHire Support so we can investigate further.

Please include:

  • The recipient's phone number

  • The recipient's mobile carrier or calling service (for example, AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, or Google Voice)

  • The approximate date and time of the failed call

  • Confirmation that the BrightHire calling number is 1-908-895-6951

  • What happened when the call was attempted (for example, no ringing, missed call, call immediately ended, or spam warning)

  • A screenshot of any error or spam warning, if available

Providing these details will help us determine whether the call was successfully placed and where the call may have been interrupted.

Important

Carrier and phone spam-filtering settings can change over time. If the steps above don't match what you see, look for the carrier's current spam protection, call filtering, blocked numbers, or call screening settings.
