How to Troubleshoot Microphone Issues

BrightHire's "Call with BrightHire" feature is designed to streamline interview processes, but users may encounter technical issues or need to manage candidate preferences. This article provides guidance on troubleshooting microphone issues and handling candidate opt-outs during ad-hoc calls.

Troubleshooting Microphone Issues

If candidates cannot hear you during a call, follow these steps to resolve microphone issues:

1. Check Browser Site Permissions

  • While on BrightHire, click the lock icon next to the URL in your browser.

  • Ensure the microphone permission is set to "Allow."

  • If you make changes, refresh the page to apply them.

2. Verify Browser Microphone Settings

  • Open your browser's microphone settings (e.g., in Chrome, navigate to chrome://settings/content/microphone).

  • Select the correct microphone device.

  • Ensure BrightHire is not listed under "Blocked." If it is, remove it from the blocked list.

3. Confirm System-Level Microphone Permissions

  • Check your operating system's microphone permissions: - Mac: Go to System Settings β†’ Privacy & Security β†’ Microphone, and enable access for your browser. - Windows: Navigate to Settings β†’ Privacy β†’ Microphone, and enable browser access.

4. Test the Microphone

  • Use an online microphone testing tool in the same browser to determine if the issue is browser-wide or specific to BrightHire.

If the microphone still does not work after completing these steps, gather your browser and device details for further troubleshooting.
